The advantage of lithium electric forklifts is that they are zero carbon and environmentally friendly compared with gasoline-powered vehicles. It uses unconventional vehicle fuel as a source of power. Lithium-ion batteries are also used in a wide range of areas, in addition to lithium electric forklifts, new energy vehicles, mobile phones, laptops, tablets, mobile power supplies, electric bicycles, electric tools and so on. 


But the safety problems of lithium-ion batteries should not be underestimated. Many accidents have shown that when people charge not properly, or the environmental temperature is too high, it is very easy to cause spontaneous combustion and explosion of lithium ion batteries, which has also become the biggest pain point in the development of lithium ion batteries.


Although the properties of the lithium battery itself determine the fate of its "flammable and explosive" explosion, it is not completely impossible to reduce the risk and safety. With the continuous progress of battery technology, whether mobile phone enterprises, new energy vehicle companies or forklift manufacturers, through reasonable battery management system and thermal management system, batteries can ensure safe without explosion or spontaneous combustion.


1, improves the safety of the electrolyte

There is a high reaction activity between the electrolyte and the positive and negative electrode, especially at high temperature, in order to improve the safety of the battery, improve the safety of the electrolyte is one of the more effective methods. The safety risks of electrolyte can be effectively solved by adding functional additives, using new lithium salt and the use of new solvents.


According to the different functions of additives, they can be divided into the following: safety protection additives, film additives, protect positive electrode additives, stable lithium salt additives, lithium precipitation additives, fluid anti-corrosion additives, enhance invasive additives, etc.


2, improves the safety of electrode materials


Lithium iron phosphate and ternary composites are considered to be low-cost and "excellent safety" cathode materials, and are widely used in the forklift industry. For cathode materials, the common method to improve their safety is coating modification, such as surface coating of cathode materials with metal oxide, which can prevent the direct contact between cathode materials and electrolyte, inhibit the phase transition of cathode materials, improve its structural stability, reduce the disorder of cations in the lattice, to reduce the heat production of secondary reaction.


For the negative electrode material, improving the thermal stability of the SEI film in the lithium-ion battery, improving the thermal stability is the key method to improve the safety of the negative electrode material. Thermal stability of the negative material can be improved by weak oxidation, metal and metal oxide deposition, polymer or carbon coating.

In addition to improving the safety of battery materials, many safety protection measures adopted by commodity lithium-ion battery, such as battery safety valve, thermal soluble fuse, parts with positive temperature coefficient in series, thermal closed insulation, loading special protection circuit, special battery management system, etc., are also means to enhance safety.
